Ms. Maame Esi Eshun

Maame Esi Eshun is an Economist and Research Analyst with demonstrated history of undertaking analytical works and multinational research projects in the private and public sectors. She holds an MPhil in Economics and a BA in Economics from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (Ghana).

She is currently the Acting Head of Research of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), Ghana, where she leads a team of researchers to undertake analytical and policy-driven research to inform the Commission. Before her current position, Maame Esi served as the Head of the Executive Secretary’s Secretariat and a Senior Researcher at the PURC. She was also the Research Coordinator of SEND West Africa, Ghana, where she acted as the primary administrative contact for internal research staff and as the principal operational liaison for other research organizations and funding agencies. Ms. Eshun was also the lead researcher of multi-country research projects on the extractives sector at the African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET) between 2014 and 2018.

She is a former Southern Voices Network Research Fellow/Scholar, and an ambassador to the Southern Voices Network of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, USA. She currently serves as the Secretary of PURC’s Finance and Administrative Committee of the Board, and as the Secretary of the Technical Committee of the GIMPA-PURC Centre of Excellence in Public Utility Regulation (CEPUR). Ms. Eshun is also a member of the team that develops annually the Ghana Utility Performance Index (GUPI).

With various positions held and experiences spanning diverse Pan-African settings, she is keen on realizing advanced research and sustainability practices towards practical deliverables that ultimately improves livelihoods and enhances sustainability. Her research interests include regulatory and energy economics, sustainability and climate related research, and gender responsive research in the extractives.
